coming up. here's a look at highway 4 through the bay point pittsburg area you can see that steady stream of traffic sneaking its way back up westbound. up next a look here at 880 near the oakland coliseum. you can see traffic flowing well in both directions. a man is in the hospital after falling about 30 feet inside the coliseum in last nights raiders game. christien kafton is at the oakland coliseum with the investigation. good morning, christien. >> reporter: i have been texting the sheriffs office trying to find out more about this. here's what we do know during or right before last nights game a fan was on the third deck there. you can see how high that deck is there and either fell or jumped to the lower concourse below. the fan fell an estimated 30-50 feet to land on the concrete below. that fan fell during last

nights raiders-broncos game. emt, police, and sheriffs deputies were on scene and able to respond quickly. there are conflicting reports over whether that fan fell or jumped. emergency workers took that fan to highland hospital just 3.5 miles away with serious injuries. his identity has not been released at this point. the raiders have released a statement saying they have no information beyond what investigators are releasing but their thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends and victim of that fall. we will look to catch up with raiders fan a little bit later on to figure out if anyone saw what happened yesterday as well as look at getting more information from authorities about their investigation. we will try to bring it to you throughout the morning. for now we are live christien kafton ktvu channel 2 news. we have developing news from japan. less than an hour ago a magnitude 5.0 after shock hit the northeast coast of japan.

that follows a 7.3 quake that hit japan just after midnight pacific time in the same general area as last years quake and tsunami. today's earthquake did trigger a three foot high tsunami but no large wave paps tower camera in tokyo captured the entire city shaking there. there are reports of a few injuries but no major damage at this point. a tsunami warning has been lifted. some roads were closed and rail service temporary stopped for safety checks. oakland police swat team surrounded an apartment complex late last night. warrants were being served. we have no other details right now but that swat activity ended about 2:00 this morning. no word of any arrests were made. two san jose restaurants have a lot of cleaning up to do after a fire forced them to evacuate just before closing time last night. ktvu janine de la vega is in san jose to tell us if the restaurants are expected to be

open today. >> reporter: firefighters told us they think the restaurants should be able to open but they are unsure just how much water damage is in there from them extinguishing the fire. these restaurants are in a strip mall in the evergreen area just before 9:30 last night. people inside started noticing smoke inside. both restaurants were evacuated and firefighters arrived but it took them awhile to find the fire because the actual flames were in a crawl space in the attic of the strip mall. >> that is the only way to put a fire out is put a water on it. the crawl space being unsupported is hard to access and very dangerous. >> reporter: at one point the fire escalated to three alarms. it took them 40 minutes to knock it down. fire officials say it helped the building had sprinklers inside that helped it from spreading.

they think the cause may be electrical because again the fire broke out near the electrical signs that you see actually out there in front of there. it was in the crawl space between the electrical signs and the attic. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. we are now hearing there may be only two people at the fiscal cliff negotiating table. according to the new york times house speaker john boehner says he wants to negotiate directly with president obama. he has asked that senate leaders and house minority leader nancy pelosi be excluded from future talks. and clearing a negotiating room improves the chances for success. just 25 minutes from now the closely watched monthly unemployment report will be released for november. coming up at 5:15 what economists say the numbers released this morning don't accurately reflect the current jobs market. time now 5:05. reports an oakland church youth group visiting florida today is

out of money and their belongings because thieves broke into their van. a group of 24 teenagers and young adults were eating at a restaurant yesterday. about an hour after arriving for a weekend youth conference. they are saying thieves broke into their van, stole $12,000 cash. one member of the group was able to have money wired to them so they at least spent last night in a hotel. there is no word yet if this group plans to come back to oakland today. funeral services will be held this weekend for two teenage girls who were shot to death in oakland last month. services for 15-year-old raquel will be held sunday morning at coopers mortuary. a mass will be held at st. jarles church on monday. 16-year-old bobby sartain will be remembered saturday in oakland. these girls were found last month near brooke dale park. they had been shot as many as

36 times. no arrests have been made. today is the 71st anniversary on the attack of pearl harbor which helped propel the united states in world war ii. they will mark the day bellying the beacon at dusk. it will shine until dawn. it's called the eye of diablo. it was turned off on december 8th, 1941 so it would not be a guide for enemy planes. it stayed dark until 1964 and now it's it will every year on this day december 7th. time now 5:07. we usually talk to sal about friday light. tara is in for sal. so far you're still smiling. >> i am. happy friday. roadways are looking clear so that is the good news. hopefully it will stay that way for your morning commute. right now let's take a look at highway 24 through lafayette. you can see traffic is flowing nicely there. those are the taillights you see there. at the mccarthur maze we have no problems here either. you can see in the far right hand side of your screen those

channel 2 morning news the story many people are talking about the new york man shoved to death on the subway tracks was laid to rest. his 20-year-old daughter clutched a photo of him throughout the memorial. many people are wondering why none of the passengers tried to save him. newspaper photographer who snapped photos of the incident described what happened. >> from where i was i couldn't scream my lungs out and probably nobody would have heard it. and since my camera is always in my hand and always on start clicking away juicing the shutter that will fire the flash. >> so you thought it might warn the conductor? >> yes. >> suspect davis is being held without bail on a charge of second degree murder. he claims he was drunk and wouldn't leave him alone. time is 5:13. a husband and wife accused of killing a hercules mother in her home is due in court this morning. darnell and tonya washington

are expected to enter pleas of charges of murder. they are accused of killing 55- year-old suzie ko. the washingtons were later arrested in the seattle area. police say they spotted them in suzie ko's family car. joseph naso will not be tried until april. he is charged with killing four women in northern california between 1977 and 1944. he was initially scheduled to go to trial in october but that was rescheduled for january when naso said he needed more time to prepare because he is representing himself. last week in court naso said he cannot be ready next month because of the volume of reports that he's received. the latest jobless numbers are due out in 15 minutes. as alison burns reports some natural and manmade disasters will have an impact on the report. >> reporter: pam, economists

expect this report is going to show fewer people were hired last month compared to october. the fallout from hurricane sandy is continuing to disrupt businesses and their hiring and fear of the fiscal cliff is keeping employers from bringing on new workers. they don't know what future tax rates will be and if they can afford more hiring. but on capitol hill democrats are trying to highlight the positives. >> we had a little problem because of what happened with hurricane sandy but we'll still have about 100,000 new jobs. >> reporter: the report comes out in just 15 minutes. we'll show you who is hiring and who is not. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns ktvu channel 2 news. time now 5:15. fundraising records were shattered by both president obama and mitt romney during their campaigns. they raised more than $2 billion. campaign finance records show the president raised $1.1 billion for his reelection effort. his republican challenger mitt

romney was close behind. $1.1billion. now the record setting amounts don't include the hundreds of millions sent by super packs on ads. it was called the zombie apocalypse. why this simulation at a homeland security area is being called a waste of taxpayer money. mountain view police need your help identifying a woman suspected of stealing thousands of dollars from other people's bank accounts. they released surveillance photos which were taken in september. investigators say the woman is in impersonating a customer at a wells fargo bank. according to police she made unauthorized withdrawals totaling $20,000. now take a look. if you recognize her please call mountain view police. time is 5:16. just when labor negotiations were looking up, all hope for saving the nhl season right foul looks like it's lost. negotiations in new york broke

develop in our area. visibility down if a quarter mile in areas near napa. fairfield reporting dense fog along i-80 you will find that just be careful out there. take it easy. we'll have patchy fog throughout the morning hours. concord and livermore reporting visibility anywhere from a mile to two to four miles. a little bit of patchy fog reported there as well. our temperatures a lot colder than where we were 24 hours ago. we have the clear skies. we don't have that blanket to insulate us. boy did we really see temperatures fall in santa rosa. 37 degrees outside your door. there is a shiver there. 41 in concord. 49 in san francisco. dealing with the fog this morning even patchy dense fog so visibility dropping down quite a bit in some areas over the bridges you'll want to take it easy as well. afternoon highs will be slightly warmer today. we have a ridge of high pressure that will build into your weekend. that will continue our modest warming trend for your weekend.

welcome back. time now 5:23. an investigation under way in alameda. a man was found dead in a grocery store parking lot. his body was found yesterday afternoon in a car outside of nob hill foods. the county coroners office identified the man as aldin ma. investigators want to know how he died and where he used to live. katt williams facing new legal problems after he

announced he was unretired from being on stage. an arrest warrant has now been issued in connection to a police chase in downtown sacramento last month. chp says williams almost ran down five people when he drove his motorcycle on to the sidewalk. williams also failed to show up at an arraignment. despite all these controversies the manager for katt williams says he's not retiring and will continue with his tour. u.s. senator is questioning spending at the department of homeland security. rom senator tom coburn issued a report focusing on other things a counterterrorism summit held in san diego last month. specifically he questions a feature of the summit called the zombie apocalypse. organizers say it was meant as a training exercise. >> we absolutely stand by its value. it was a great simulation of a

so far none of the nuclear plants were effected. it was centered off the north eastern coast of japan. that is right near last year's magnitude 9.0 quake that triggered a tsunami and a meltdown at a nuclear plant. the quake they had today in japan did set off a three foot high tsunami at a coastal city. this is a tower camera in tokyo. the city was shaking. no word of -- there is some word of a few injuries. we haven't heard of any serious injuries as we look at these pictures just as you do. tsunami warning that had been issued has been lifted now. there have been several aftershocks including one that was 6.2. new this morning another financial crisis may be looming for city college of san francisco. ktvu channel 2 reporter lorraine blanco joins us now to explain what is effecting school funding. lorraine. good morning. 34,000 is the magic number for city college of san francisco

to keep all of its state fund examining that is how many full- time students they have to enroll here. they expect to fall short again. last year the school enrolled 32,600 students. and it was put on probation. they expect the same cut of numbers this time around and because it's a second year in a row the state could fund the college at a lower rate next fiscal year. that could result in less course offerings and even layoffs here. this issue was one of several problems ccsf is facing right now. on march 15th it has to submit a report saying it has made the necessary structural and fiscal changes to stay open. one of the big positives for the school though is last month voters passed proposition a a parcel tax that provides revenue to ccsf. they are looking forward to $16 million a year for the next eight years here that should help with some of the financial problems. reporting live in san francisco lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2

news. time is 5:33. overnight news a fire forced the evacuation of two restaurants at a san jose shopping center. ktvu janine de la vega is in san jose to tell us how that fire may have started. janine. >> reporter: dave, we're here in a strip mall in the evergreen area. behind me you can see the two restaurants panda express and pasta next door. you can't see any outside damage. but when they open up they will evaluate how much nay have to clean up inside. both restaurant were full of customers when the fire erupted just before 9:30 last night. they started smelling smoke and everyone evacuated. at first firefighters didn't see the flames buffablely located them in the -- but finally located them in the attic. they say it was difficult to access so they could extinguish the flames. >> it was smoldering for quite awhile.

once we made access we were able to extinguish it quite quickly. >> reporter: firefighters say there is no significant damage from the flames but there could be some left over from the water they use. the sprinklers inside the building helped it from spreading. nobody was injured. the electrical signs back out here live that you see here, firefighter believe that the cause could have been electrical because there is just a lot of electricity running through there. again that is where the flames that is where the origin was. they believe it could have been electrical. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega. time is 5:34. gilroy police are searching for a young man accused of stabbing a 74-year-old man in downtown gilroy. it happened yesterday near lewis and monterey streets near the gilroy public library. the victim was stabbed in his

torso. they believe he will survive. the attacker a white man in his 20s. he had blond hair and wearing dirty tan clothing. once again today we will see if the supreme court will announce if it will take up proposition 8 the ban on same sex marriage. the justices will meet again this morning to decide which cases they will rule on in the coming months. as with last week, if prop 8 is on the list today, a ruling would likely come sometime in june. if prop 8 is not on the list, the waiting game will continue until the next supreme court conference which is scheduled for january. concerns about the fiscal cliff are not hurting president obama's approval rating. it's now at 57%. that is the highest rating since may 2011 when navy seals killed osama bin laden in a raid. 42% of americans say the country is on the right track and majority think it's likely president obama will improve the economy. time now 5:35. the national football league is willing to help the raiders build a new stadium in oakland.

nfl commissioner says it's crucial the raiders improve their stadium situation and the nfl would help pay for a new one. now the team and the city have held negotiations about a new stadium but there is nothing concrete yet. commission ever cadel also said they could -- but that deal would have to be worked out between the two teams. a big change may be coming to the national football league in the near future. coming up at 5:45 why some people want kickoffs to be eliminated and what they would replace it with. new this morning november unemployment report was just released. it is a little better than expected. it shows the u.s. economy added 146,000 jobs. economists predicted less than 100,000. the unemployment rate fell to a four year low 7.7%. i'm keeping an eye on the futures they are holding steady

showing a slightly lower opening. we'll get a better look as we get closer to that opening bell in an hour. bart is giving military veterans a leg up on competition for jobs at the agency. the board of directors approved a new hiring policy yesterday. it gives veterans a 5% chance over other perspective workers. veterans have six months of active status and honorable discharge in order to qualify. they must also pass an exam. time now 5:37. we'll give you a reason to smile mismorning. tara says the roads are clear. >> that is right. it's kind of nice to say. it's getting a little congested on 580 westbound through livermore. that is typical. let's take a look at the golden gate bridge. it's a little misty out there. traffic is flowing nicely. at the bay bridge toll plaza the metering lights are not on yet. we don't see any backup. and finally san mateo bridge

you can see traffic looking good on your right hand said there as you make your way toward foster city and on the opposite side toward hayward. rosemary how is it going? we have a nice afternoon in store for you. maybe not at this hour. some of us are dealing with fog this morning. a view of the satellite radar. a ridge of high pressure will be building in in time for the weekend. that will bring us a bit of warming trend for your saturday. sunday looks to be the warmest day. and today not bad at all. where we're seeing the patchy dense fog is in the north bay valley locations. and now livermore visibility has been reduced to a quarter mile in your neighborhood. head into fairfield you will find patchy dense fog. napa reporting patchy dense fog as well. that means a really tough time seeing across the highways. santa rosa reporting anywhere from a mile to three miles visibility. it could drop off suddenly. backing it up a little bit over the course of the weekend the ridge will become a little more

restaurants. it happened last night on san filipe road. human rights watch is accusing israel of violating laws of war during the conflict with palestinian immigrants in gaza. israel says the home was a hideout for a senior hamas militant involved in rocket attacks but human rights watch says the man was a low ranking police officer. more violations against the bangladesh clothing factory that caught fire last month. according to the associated press the factory lost its fire safety certification in june because the building was not up to code. we're also learning the building was only supposed to be three stories high but had been illegally expanded with a ninth story being added at the time of the fire. 5:45.

this morning software founder john mcafee is back in a guatemala detention center after being rushed to the hospital. he was complaining of chest pains. the doctors say he is suffering from stress. they are fighting to keep him from being extradited flown back to belize that is where he is wanted for questioning in the death of one of his neighbors. some san francisco supervisors are debating whether the police should carry stun guns. police department wants to hand out the weapons to officers with specialized training. now supporters say stun guns ease dangerous situations with nonlethal force. during a hearing yesterday several supervisors feared police officers would rely on that weapon too much. only the police commission has the authority to approve the use of stun guns. san jose police are angry

about a flier inside people's utility bills. the first of its kind mailer went out to 194,000 san jose households this week. it provides a number to call for anyone with concerns or complaints about the police. san jose's independent police auditor put out the flier. she says the city charter mandates the outreach. >> it's important that people know they have the right to complain if they feel they have a complaint or a concern that they have that right. >> here's some ideas on how to start a neighborhood watch. or here is important phone number. we think that is a better use of resources as far as reaching out to the public. >> the police union comes at a time when the department is dealing with low moral, a high homicide rate and dwindling force. on the flip side there is a section on the police website where people can compliment officers. time is 5:46. a woman from novato recovering from frostbite after she was

time now 5:55. we told you a couple minutes ago about the woman who survived being stranded six days in the snow up in the sierra. experts say there are several things you can do to survive something like that. first, stay in your car. make sure someone can see it either with a light on inside or something bright tied to the antenna. also be sure to carry warm clothing, blankets, food, water and a flashlight. and if you're in an isolated area the experts say the best idea ration your food and just wait. >> your probability of being found in the car is a lot higher than you going out wondering. because you can get disor yen stated very fast in snow drifts and with white out conditions and hyperthermia sets in very quickly. >> the experts also say if you have to get out of the car wait for a break in the weather and stay on the road. also always tell someone where and when you're going.

be aware of what the weather is like. san francisco health officials are urging gay men to get vaccinated for meningitis if they plan to travel to new york. officials say 12 cases have been identified in gay men in new york in the past year. three have been diagnosissed in the last six weeks. the severe bacterial infection effects the tissue surrounding the brain and spinal cord and spread by intimate contact. san francisco has not experienced an increase in cases but health officials say they want people to be aware of that outbreak. get ready for this. would you drink coffee originated from the tail end of an elephant? some people are paying $50 a cup to savor such a flavor. the exotic brew is called black ivory coffee. it's made from coffee beans eaten by elephants in thailand. the reaction in the elephant's gut is said to help create the coffee's smooth earthy taste.
